Abilities

We are clicker training Sagan.  We will keep a list of his tricks and skills here.

  • Sit (100%..awesome on this)
  • Watch (98%...sometimes shorts the watch)
  • Touch (100%...he loves doing this)
  • Down (100%)
  • Leave it (70%....)
  • Come (90%)
  • Shake (95%)
  • Give (95%....only in an intense moment of tugging does it take a moment)
  • Get the ball (75%....  if he forgets to bring the ball, and I say this command, he mostly goes to mouth the ball)
  • Closer (?? He picks it up, moves it six inches closer and drops it.  Not super helpful when he's 10 feet away as it takes 20 repetitions to get it close, but it eventually happens... usually...)
  • Bang (95%...thanks to Ross, he is better at this one)
  • Kiss (90%....he noses me a lot, instead of kissing...it is in the works)
  • Go to Jail (100%....sometimes he goes, and bolts out before I get a chance to enforce it...whoops)
  • Heel/Loose leash walking (85%)
  • Spin-turn clockwise (100% Cody taught him this while we were on vacation... If I make a slight gesture clockwise, he is pretty consistent!!!!)
  • Do your Yoga (75%...needs treat in cue position of floor, but doesn't need rear end held up anymore)
  • Target (95%....  a key to Manners Minder and we are also using this command for the plate targeting)
  • Twist-turn counterclockwise...(100%  Fun to get him to alternate spin and twist.)
  • Step Up (100%..starting to generalize to new objects).
  • Ears Back (just started, we'll see if Ross can make this work.  Ultimate goal to teach him to "fly away")
  • Stand/Burpee (70%  Sit, Stand, Sit, Down in rapid succession.  Tracy the trainer calls it doggie pushups, but it looks more like a burpee to me.  L thought I made this term up until we looked it up on Wikipedia, then Jillian Michaels said it two hours later on Biggest Loser.)
  • Chase sheep in one direction around handler (60%)
  • Off (80%-working this in conjunction with "step up" right now, and the opposite of us inviting him to put his paws on us)
  • Let's go (90% -used as a less urgent "come" in the backyard when it is time to go in)
  • Go to bed (30%...just started)

  • Tug and release tuggy (100%)
  • Name recognition (95%)
  • Default sit when i stop while we are walking (75%.....he always sits, but whether it is before he feels the leash tighten up or not....)
  • Scooch (turn his butt to the right so he is turning left)
  • Place (sit in heel position from another position)
  • Left/Right turn
  • Close ( 100%) come parallel to me on the left)
